The bulk of the underwater pictures featured on this website were taken by my dear friend and mentor, Bill Keen. Bill passed away this summer. By including these pictures on the website and social media, my hope is to share his passion for diving with as many people as possible.  Please check out the website his wife developed:  http://www.billkeensphotos.com.

How it all started:

The ocean has always been part of my life. I grew up on the north coast of California. My father would dive every weekend and I would splash around in the tide pools while he would both free dive for abalone and SCUBA dive.

Fast forward 20 years. I was living in New York City and felt the call of the ocean once again. I started my Open Water certfication in Manhattan, but decided to visit a friend in Oahu to do my Open Water dives.  My first dive off the boat on Oahu was life changing. I saw turtles, eels, octopus and a manta ray! Once I surfaced from that dive, I knew where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do.

There have been many highlights of my diving career.  Diving with Manta Rays, seeing over thirty Spotted Eagle Rays while diving the Mahi shipwreck and hanging out with a Hawaiian Monk Seal at Sharks Cove are some of many. Most of all, I enjoy the progressions my students make and the connections I have shared with my students and customers. Watching my Open Water students progress from the first confined water session to the final Open Water certification dive or seeing my former Open Water students become PADI Instructors is why I do what I do.

One of the gifts of this profession was being able to recertify my father and certify my brother here on Oahu. To be able to share my passion for diving with them was truly amazing.  Since it was my father that introduced me to the ocean and diving, it was awesome to come full circle and certify him as a PADI Open Water and Advanced Open Water diver.

It was my friend Brent, whom I have known since college, that inspired the visit to Oahu to get certified and introduced me to my instructor, mentor and dear friend Bill. Bill was passionate about making personal connections with everyone he met and making SCUBA diving safe and fun. His enthusiasm for diving and making those personal connections inspired me to come out here to do this professionally.

For years Bill encouraged me to start my own diving business. This summer he shared with me some of his photography. He wanted me to use them on my website, social media and marketing materials. Shortly afterwards, Bill passed away surrounded by family and friends. There are no words to express the loss, but sharing these pictures is a small way for me to share his passion for diving with others and to honor him in the process.

And now, Tyler's Oahu SCUBA:

After completing over 8,000 dives and over 1,000 student certifications for other companies here on Oahu, I have opened my own dive business. It is my sincere desire to share my passion for diving, teaching and the ocean in the way my father did with me. From my time working at Deep Ecology,  a few of the countless things I learned from Pat were aloha, ohana, environmental stewardship and integity in business. It is my hope to live up to the high bar she set. Lastly, the cornerstone of my business mission statement is to provide what my mentor Bill inspired: provide a safe and fun diving experience while maintaining personal connections with every customer.

Join me and explore the underwater world!
